Something strange – and sweet – is coming to your neighborhood Krispy Kreme: Ghostbusters-themed doughnuts.
For the arrival of the Halloween season and the 40th anniversary of the theatrical debut of "Ghostbusters," Krispy Kreme has cooked up the Ghostbusters Collection of four doughnuts paying homage to the original film starring Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray.
Available beginning Monday for a limited time at participating shops, the doughnuts get inspiration from the comedy classic, which first hit theaters in June 1984.
“Yes it’s true, these treats are no trick. When it comes to Halloween this year, you know who to call,” said Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme, in a news release. “Krispy Kreme is the gatekeeper to Halloween sweetness and Sony Pictures Consumer Products is the key master to bring spooky-sweet Ghostbusters doughnuts to our fans this year. You’re welcome, Gozer (the movie's ancient villainous diety).”

Krispy Kreme's Ghostbuster doughnuts
The Ghostbusters doughnuts are available individually or in a limited-edition custom specialty box resembling the traps the Ghostbusters used to capture ghosts (prices vary by location):
- Ghostbusters Cookies N’ Creme Doughnut made with Oreo: A chocolate iced Original Glazed doughnut, topped with Oreo pieces, Oreo buttercreme, and a No Ghost logo candy.
- Slimer Doughnut: An unglazed doughnut with lemon flavored green filling, dipped in purple and green icing with a Slimer candy.
- Ecto-Sprinkled Doughnut: An Original Glazed doughnut dipped in orange colored icing, topped with neon sprinkles.
- Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Doughnut Pull-Apart: Powdered Original Glazed Doughnut Dots topped with marshmallow flavored buttercreme and a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man candy.
Three of the Ghostbusters doughnuts – all but the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man doughnut – will also be available for a limited time in a special box of six assorted doughnuts delivered fresh daily to select retailers. To find a location, go to the Krispy Kreme website.
Thirsty for a spooky drink? You can also get a new Ghostbusters-themed drink, the Slimer’s Slime-ade, which is colored "a signature ectoplasm green."

Still on the Krispy Kreme menu: Golden Harvest Collection
For fall, Krispy Kreme introduced in mid-September its Golden Harvest Collection, which includes the Maple Buttercreme Doughnut, Oatmeal Kreme Pie Doughnut, Salted Caramel Cheesecake Doughnut and Spiced Apple Filled Doughnut.
Also being offered for a limited time, the Golden Harvest Collection remained available on krispykreme.com.
